Ethylene oxyde

Features

Ethylene Oxide (C2H4O) is a liquefied gas widely used in the chemical industry as an intermediate in the synthesis of some products: surfactants, glycos, glycol, ether, polyethylene glycols, ethanolamines, hydroxy-ethycellulose, and pharmaceutical products.

This gas is also used pure or blended with inert gases, for low temperature sterilization of plastic items which don't resist to steam sterilization (temperature +/- 135°C): syringes, catheters, prostheses, piping, pouches etc…

It's also sold with CO2 or HFCs (hydro fluorocarbons)

Up to 10% (weight) of ethylene oxide, the blend is non-flammable.
