Ethylene oxide
Features
Ethylene oxide (C2H4O) is a liquefied gas widely used in the chemical industry as an intermediate in the synthesis of some products : surfactants, glycols, glycol ether, polyethylene glycols, ethanolamins, hydroxy-ethycellulosis, pharmaceutical products.
This gas is also used pure or blended with inert gases, for low temperature sterilization of no steam sterilization resistant plastic items (+/– 135°C): syringes, catheters, prothesis, piping, pouches etc…
It is also sold with CO2 or HFCs (hydrofluorocarbons).
Up to 10 % (weight) of ethylene oxide, the blend is non flammable.
